Marsden Jazz Festival

Second Line is a traditional brass band parade from New Orleans. The brass band leads the parade as the first line and the followers - or second line - dance, carry and twirl highly decorative parasoles or just walk and enjoy the music. Also known as a Jazz Funeral Without a body, second line parades are often characterised by their upbeat music and celebration.

For the second year running I was commissioned to work at this popular and energetic festival. Developing and running workshops for both community and specific groups  I worked with a wide variety of people to enable them to produce uniquely decorated parasols to use in the Second Line parade.

With over one hundred people designing and making parasols and joining the parade this again proved to be a popular and enjoyable event.
